LOCATION: Crook County High School
HOURS: 8 hours per day, 180 days per year (will prorate for 24-25 SY)

REQUIREMENTS: College degree preferred; experience as a student at a technical/vocational school or college will be beneficial; understanding of volunteer management or history of volunteering; ability to use e-mail, Internet and basic word processing software; ability to work in a professional school environment; ability to maintain confidentiality; sensitivity to challenges faced by youth; sensitivity to problems faced by young adults who are not traditional college bound students; dependability and a strong sense of commitment; ability to maintain a patient, non-judgmental attitude. Must pass pre-employment drug screening and criminal history background check.
COMPLETE JOB DESCRIPTION:
The College Readiness Coordinator trains adult volunteers to work one-on-one with high school students helping them to plan, prepare and achieve their postsecondary education goals, which may be college or a vocational/technical school. The College Readiness Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of College Readiness (ASPIRE) Advisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Knowledge of ASPIRE curriculum materials, web site, and other web resources.
- Follow ASPIRE guidelines and school policies regarding confidentiality, meeting times, safety, etc.
- Facilitate and maintain regular ASPIRE related communication to students and other partners. Help communicate ASPIRE and related information to program participants (ASPIRE Orbit e-newsletter, scholarship bulletins, etc. posters.)
- Facilitate volunteer meetings and trainings.
- Recruit students and create mentoring pairs between students and ASPIRE Advisors.
- Ensure that ASPIRE Advisors are able to involve and work effectively with students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
- Provide ongoing training to ASPIRE Advisors, including regular debriefings, problem-solving and sharing information about college fairs, campus visitations, and other programs.
- Provide volunteer recognition activities.
- Maintain accurate records. Collect and report key performance measures required by OSAC.
- Participate in program evaluations and surveys.
- Provide initial and ongoing training to ASPIRE Advisors on school policies and regulations, orientation of the school and local community, and technical assistance regarding postsecondary preparation.
- Create and disperse career center marketing and informational material.
- Develop and maintain student tracker and portfolio forms.
- Provide “drop-in” students with ASPIRE curriculum materials.
- Ensure that students have parental/guardian permission to participate in ASPIRE.
- Involve parent/guardians in ASPIRE through outreach activities and workshops.
- Conduct informational meetings for parents and students.
- Compose and send thank you notes to all career center partners to ensure an on-going appreciation of our community partners and other supporters.
- Compose newsletters and distribute appropriately.
- Independently answer routine questions and correspondence from parents, staff and students not requiring the supervisor’s attention.
- Report any volunteer accidents or incidents to the school administration.
- Manage special projects as assigned by principal.
- Appropriately maintain and secure confidential student and personnel records and inquiries.
- Recruit and train new volunteers for ASPIRE and supervise the ASPIRE program.
- Connect with local college and develop partnerships with admissions and/for financial aid staff to provide direct help to students and parents.
- Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
- Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Attend work regularly.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Serve on building and District committees and councils.
- Report issues to authorities as necessary, animal control, suspicious activity etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may supervise volunteers and student aides. This position may provide direction to some clerical office staff. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree preferred and three to four years' related experience in typing, general clerical and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to rapidly and accurately enter and retrieve computerized data. Prior successful experience working in a school setting strongly preferred.

Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with adolescent students and public.
- Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to principals and the Superintendent. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Proficiency in the usage of database software, internet software, e-mail and word processing software. Ability to proficiently use the following programs strongly preferred: eSIS, MS Word, MS Publisher, MS Access, School Wires, MS PowerPoint and Excel, Subfinder. Ability to type accurately and proficiently.
- Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions. Knowledge of college entrance requirements including testing, FASFA, OSAC and CIS. Knowledge of the Oregon University System.
- Certificates as determined by the District including a valid Oregon Driver License and ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.
