SALARY RANGE: $47,453 -$75,563 based on experience and education

COMPLETE JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

Powell Butte Community Charter School (PBCCS) is seeking an energetic and creative math teacher, licensed to teach at the middle school level with an endorsement in math. PBCCS is a rural K-8 school offering a unique public school option in Crook County committed to place-based learning.


PBCCS is seeking a middle school math teacher who is passionate about providing engaging math instruction to students in grades 6-8. In addition, the teacher will work collaboratively with our middle school team to develop place-based math opportunities for students that are integrated into place-based learning experiences.


In addition, the teacher will build appropriate relationships with students that foster a safe and supportive learning environment. The teacher provides the opportunity for each student to meet the state standards through sound instructional and assessment practices aligned with the vision of the Powell Butte Charter School and Oregon State standards in mathematics.


A successful candidate will be eager to conduct outdoor fieldwork, build community partnerships and write innovative inquiry-based curriculum. PBCCS students and staff regularly leave the school to use the environment and community as a classroom. The ideal candidate will have experience with both classroom teaching and outdoor environmental science education. It is essential that PBCCS middle school teachers have strong classroom management skills and are excited to work with a small, collaborative staff and school community.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Effectively and positively provides children with a meaningful school experience, builds confidence, love of learning and joy within students.
  2. Builds strong positive partnerships and relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community partners.
  3. Teaches content and skills in alignment Oregon State standards for mathematics, utitlizing school adopted curriculum with rigor, purpose, and strong planning.
  4. Actively supports and builds a strong positive school culture and learning environment.
  5. Embraces and implements innovative instructional strategies, integration and place-based education including field studies and outdoor learning experiences.
  6. Is flexible and adapts to student and school needs.
  7. Designs and maintains an organized and effective student-friendly and student-centered classroom environment.
  8. Maintains a reflective, participatory and punctual teaching practice.
  9. Focused on making learning visible through effective and active student engagement.
  10. Works collaboratively with all team members including specialists to improve the instructional program.
  11. Effectively uses technology to support effective instruction and student learning.
  12. Evaluates and differentiates student progress and adapts individual programs to meet student needs.
  13. Actively participates in school activities including but not limited to: community events, open house, conferences.
  14. Fulfills professional obligations of the professional growth and evaluation system for licensed educators.


MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Serve on school committees and councils.
2. Report issues to authorities as necessary, such as child abuse.
3. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may supervise educational assistants, volunteers, and student aides. All school employees are responsible for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment at all times. T


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Education: Must hold an undergraduate degree. Must hold a valid Oregon Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement and authorization for the assignment. Licenses as determined by PBCCS including, a valid Oregon Driver License and ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.
  • Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.
  • Experience: Demonstrated ability to successfully teach children in the public school setting. Student teaching also applies.
  • Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff or members of the community. Ability to draft correspondence and some routine reports. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to provide students with an intuitive understanding of the grade level Common Core and Oregon State Standards in all content areas.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Proficiency in the usage of database software, internet software, and email. Ability to proficiently use the following programs: Google Docs, MS Word, Outlook, and Excel. Ability to type accurately and proficiently.
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions. A belief that all students can learn.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Oregon License and endorsement issued by Teacher Standards & Practices Commission
  • Experience teaching at the middle school level (to include student teaching)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree
  • 2 years teaching experience at the applicable grade level
  • Experience teaching Oregon Common Cores State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards
  • Proficient level performance evaluations
  • Positive recommendations from recent supervisors
  • Understanding and demonstrated experience working with children impacted by poverty.
  • Has knowledge and or experience working in inclusive settings.
