JOB SUMMARY
The Juntos Coordinator works one-on-one with Latino students and their parents helping them to plan, prepare and achieve their postsecondary education goals, primarily attending college. The Juntos Coordinator actively seeks out Latino families and helps them understand and receive resources available to them in assuring that their children have the ability to attend college.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Knowledge of Juntos curriculum materials, web site, and other resources.
- Follow Juntos guidelines and school policies regarding confidentiality, meeting times, safety, etc.
- Facilitate and maintain regular Juntos related communication to students and other partners. Help communicate Juntos and related information to program participants. Facilitate volunteer meetings and trainings.
- Recruit students and mentor students and their families toward the goal of attending college.
- Ensure that the Juntos Coordinator is able to involve and work effectively with students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
- Maintain accurate records. Collect and report key performance measures required by Oregon State University.
- Participate in program evaluations and surveys.
- Create and disperse Juntos marketing and informational material.
- Develop and maintain student tracker and portfolio forms.
- Provide “drop-in” students with Juntos curriculum and materials.
- Ensure that students have parental/guardian permission to participate in Juntos.
- Involve parent/guardians in Juntos through outreach activities and workshops.
- Conduct informational meetings for parents and students.
- Compose and send thank you notes to all partners to ensure an on-going appreciation of our community partners and other supporters.
- Compose newsletters and distribute appropriately.
- Independently answer routine questions and correspondence from parents, staff and students not requiring the supervisor’s attention.
- Report any accidents or incidents to the school administration.
- Manage special projects as assigned by principal.
- Appropriately maintain and secure confidential student and personnel records and inquiries.
- Connect with Oregon State University and develop partnerships with admissions and/for financial aid staff to provide direct help to students and parents.
- Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
- Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
- Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Attend work regularly.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Serve on building and District committees and councils.
- Report issues to authorities as necessary, animal control, suspicious activity etc.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position may supervise volunteers and student aides. This position may provide direction to some clerical office staff. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Bachelor’s degree preferred and three to four years' related experience in typing, general clerical and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to rapidly and accurately enter and retrieve computerized data. Prior successful experience working in a school setting strongly preferred.
- Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with adolescent students and public.
- Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English and Spanish. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to principals and the Superintendent. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Proficiency in the usage of database software, internet software, e-mail and word processing software. Ability to proficiently use the following programs strongly preferred: eSIS, MS Word, MS Publisher, MS Access, School Wires, MS PowerPoint and Excel, Subfinder. Ability to type accurately and proficiently.
- Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions. Knowledge of college entrance requirements including testing, FASFA, OSAC and CIS. Knowledge of the Oregon University System.
- Certificates as determined by the District including a valid Oregon Driver License and ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.
