LOCATION:  Pioneer High School

START DATE:  August 27, 2018

DAYS & HOURS:  190 days per year; 7.25 hours per day

SALARY:  $35,416 - $59,394 dependent upon education and experience

 

  

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a Masters Degree in Social Work, counseling, or clinical psychology.  Background must include experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position. At least two years of counseling experience in a public school environment. Need to be collaborative and work closely with a team. Ability to implement and maintain a positive discipline management system.

Job Title:         Clinical Social Worker / School Social Worker / School Counselor

Reports To:      Principal

FLSA Status:    Exempt

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Social Worker provides support/counseling to students enrolled in special programs. The Clinical Social Worker also supports families in obtaining access to additional community services. Additionally, the Clinical Social Worker may provide small group social skill instruction and collaborate with other professionals in meeting the diverse needs of students.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities have been extracted from Oregon Administrative Rules related to educators. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide small group instruction on topics including, but not limited to: social awareness, anger management, stress reduction, social/emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with other professionals in meeting the diverse needs of students.
  • Communicate regularly with families.
  • Identify families who may need additional counseling/services and make appropriate community referrals as necessary.
  • Communicate regularly with community partners and serve as a liaison between the school, community partners and the family.
  • Maintain appropriate record keeping systems in an organized and confidential manner.
  • Consult with administrators, parents and teachers regarding students referred for counseling services. This may include consultation and observations including specific recommendations to remediate concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals (classroom teacher, special education teachers, principals, related interdisciplinary professionals, e.g. physical therapists, mental health workers, FAN advocates, occupational therapist and speech language pathologists).
  • The responsibilities are to coordinate therapeutic health services for students, academic counselors, families, school nursing services, and outside agencies
  • Working with students in conjunction with school support staff (Administrators, Counselors, School Resource Officers, Nurses, Deans, etc.) to support them and their families with a variety of mental, emotional, and social health concerns
  • Work as a liaison for outside agencies and care providers to access information about in-school progress and effectiveness of care
  • Provide support services to small groups as appropriate
  • Help students and families find and/or coordinate primary care through outside agencies and then supplement this care, if needed, during school
  • Conference with parents and students and possibly outside agencies to coordinate plans and supports
  • Help students develop plans of self-care for in-school behavior
  • Provide support to individual students impacted by:
    • Anxiety and depression
    • Domestic difficulties
    • Drug and alcohol use
  • Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
  • Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations
  • Adhere to all standards established by Teachers Standard and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in social work, counseling, or clinical psychology.
  • At least two years of counseling experience in a public school environment.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Proficiency in the usage of database software, internet software, e-mail and word processing software.
  • Ability to proficiently use the following programs strongly preferred: Synergy, Google Suite Apps.
  • Ability to type accurately and proficiently. Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions.
  • Licenses as determined by the District including ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.
