Job Title: Teacher (K-8)

Reports To: Administrator

 

Powell Butte Community Charter is a rural K-8 school offering a unique public school option in Crook County. Through place-based education, PBCCS is committed to offering integrated learning experiences that inspire creativity, hands on exploration of the natural world and service in their local community.  

 

The teacher is the primary instructional delivery person in the classroom. Student learning and growth are dependent on the work and efforts of the classroom teacher. This position is demanding, varied and complex. The teacher must have excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills and be well trained in content knowledge and research-based teaching strategies. A passion for creating integrated learning experience that root students in their community is essential to the place-based education mission of Powell Butte Community Charter School.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

21. Complies with applicable school, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.

22. Adheres to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) for the Competent and Ethical Educator.

23. Adheres to all Oregon Administrative Rules, related to licensed educators.

24. Attends work regularly.

 

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Serve on school committees and councils.

2. Report issues to authorities as necessary, animal control, suspicious activity, etc.

3. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may supervise volunteers, student aides, and educational assistants. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment at all times. Teachers will partner with administrator in observing, providing feedback to, and evaluating classified team members that work within their classrooms.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  •  Education: Must hold an undergraduate degree. Must hold a valid Oregon Teaching License with the appropriate endorsement and authorization for the assignment. Licenses as determined by PBCCS including, a valid Oregon Driver License and ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card.
  • Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit.
  • Experience: Demonstrated ability to successfully teach children in the public school setting. Student teaching also applies.
  • Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff or members of the community. Ability to draft simple correspondence and some routine reports. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. ? Ability to provide students with an intuitive understanding of the grade level Common Core Standards in all content areas.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Proficiency in the usage of database software, internet software, and email. Ability to proficiently use the following programs: Google Docs, MS Word, Outlook, and Excel. Ability to type accurately and proficiently.
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents, members of the community and others including vendors, law enforcement and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with constant interruptions. A belief that all students can learn.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Oregon License and endorsement issued by Teacher Standards & Practices Commission
  • Experience teaching at the primary level (to include student teaching)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree
  • 2 years teaching experience at the applicable grade level
  • Experience teaching Oregon common cores state standards
  • Proficient level performance evaluations
  • Positive recommendations from recent supervisors
  • Understanding of Growth Mindset and can support center staff in increasing knowledge and understanding to increase support for students.
  • Understanding and demonstrated experience working with children impacted by poverty.
  • Has knowledge and or experience working in inclusive settings.
