LOCATION:  Crooked County High School

START DATE:  August 26, 2019

DAYS & HOURS:  190 days per year; 3.7 hours per day

SALARY:  $19,674 - $36,309 dependent upon education 

 

JOB SUMMARY 

The Computer Science Teacher will teach a wide range of computer technology courses which will expose students to computer science as a means of computationally analyzing and developing solutions to authentic problems through mobile app development, coding and basic programming.  This course will convey the positive impact of the application of computer science to other disciplines and to society. Additional responsibilities are to educate and equip students to use the computer as a productivity tool as well as a tool for learning, research, networking, collaboration, telecommunications, and problem solving. Students will be familiar with a computer keyboard and have basic keyboarding skills. Students will leave the course with skills necessary for success in post-secondary institutions and ultimately in the real world.

 

The Computer Science Teacher will implement all requirements for Career Technical Education and a quality CTE program and all related grant requirements. The instructor will also work to increase student-adult connections and strive to increase relevance and authentic opportunities for students. The Computer Science Teacher will participate in professional learning communities to support the implementation of Computer Science and CTE program requirements. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Teaches occupational knowledge and skills in areas such as, safety, leadership, personal development and career preparation subjects as assigned.
  • Responsible for the delivery, planning and all aspects of the school’s computer science program.  The program includes class instruction and the equally important, hands-on lab projects
  • Assist in the development of computer technology curriculum aligned with career pathways that ensure integration of academic and career technical education with 21st century skills
  • Take part in professional development activities designed to improve the teacher’s knowledge for the purpose of improving teaching and learning. Additional training may be required   during the summer, online during the school year and/or a combination of these 2 options.
  • Explore and research best practices associated with the positive growth of the Computer Science program
  • Monitor student overall academic progress regularly, not limited to interim/quarter grades
  • Coordinate and help organize any special Computer Science events/activities
  • Maintain current knowledge of district, state and federal laws, regulations and policies affecting Computer Science and Technology education
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned
  • Provide a coherent sequence of CTE courses that enable students to transition to postsecondary education programs that lead to a career pathway or attain employment upon graduation from high school.
  • Provide for system alignment, coherence, and articulation, including ongoing regional or local partnerships with postsecondary education institutions and industry, documented through formal written agreements.
  • Provide opportunities for students to participate in after school, extended day, and out-of-school internships, competitions, and other work-based learning opportunities.
  • Seek out and establish student internship programs and workforce opportunities.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
  • Work to create industry recognized credentials, certificates, and appropriate post-secondary education, or employment pathways.
  • Promote the Computer Science program through outreach, marketing, and communications.
  • Work with industry advisory groups.
  • Collaborate with others (e.g. teachers, counselors, administrators, students, parents, other District personnel, community organizations, etc.) for the purpose of developing, implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Career Technical Education and 21st Century Skills to foster high-skill, high-wage, and high demand career opportunities for students.
  • Must be able to meet and interact with employees and parents/guardians in routine situations, which require tact, discretion, and courtesy.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the current theories, techniques and methodologies of computer science education
  • Knowledge in the development of high school computer science curriculum design
  • Ability to analyze data from multiple sources to design, implement, monitor and evaluate successful computer science initiatives and curriculum
  • Ability to function as a member of a team and to work as a team member, harmoniously and cooperatively with professional staff and the school community

  • Initiate the marketing of computer science program, work to recruit students; work with administration and prepare marketing materials for distribution to potential students, parents, community and industry

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marginal duties of this position include the following.  Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned. 

  1. Serve on building and District and school committees and councils.
  2. Report issues to authorities as necessary, such as animal control, suspicious activity etc.

  

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may supervise volunteers, student aides, and educational assistants. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold a current TSPC Teaching License
  • Or possess the ability to obtain a CTE License or CTE Endorsement (at least an associate’s degree or equivalent, and relevant and documented work experience in the industry
  • Maintain current first aid card
  • Current on laws, rules, policies, practices regarding CTE programs and student safety
  • Embodies and practices life-long learning perspective and strives for continuous improvement
  • Believes that all students can learn and that a student failing is not an option
  • Models appropriate customer service and interpersonal behavior
  • Models Oregon Teacher Ethical Educator Standards
  • Holds a valid Oregon driver’s license
