DAYS & HOURS:  190 day; 7.33 hours per day (will prorate days for 24/25)

SALARY:  $48,092 to $89,399 dependent upon education and experience

Job Title:         Elementary Specialist Teacher -  Language and Culture

Reports To:     Principal

FLSA Status:   Exempt

 

JOB SUMMARY

The Specialist Teacher will provide instruction to K-5 classes in Language and Culture.  The Specialist Teacher will also provide schoolwide support to students and staff for an integrated curricular approach to Language and Culture.  The Teacher must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be well-trained in content knowledge and teaching strategies.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  2. Valid Oregon Educator’s License
  3. Bilingual – Fluent in Spanish

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Successful teaching experience at Elementary School level
  2. Experience in a like position
  3. Skills and Knowledge in the areas of:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities have been extracted from Oregon Administrative Rules related to educators. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Maintain appropriate licenses and training hours as required.
  2. Comply with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  3. Adhere to all standards established by Teachers Standards and Practices Commissions for Competent and Ethical Educator.
  4. Attend work regularly.
  5. Speaks fluent Spanish.
  6. Meets and instructs classes K-5th in both the push in and pull out model. Location dependent to the classroom needs. Teacher has their own classroom space.
  7. Plans and helps to implement grade level appropriate content centered around Language and Culture. Must have knowledge of K-5 Common Core State Standards.
  8. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of all students.
  9. Plans and implements a program of culture and language collaboratively that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students using data-driven decision-making.
  10. Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  11. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of building expectation of classroom behavior.
  12. Uses an integrated approach to the learning process toward the achievement of all curriculum goals; establishes and communicates clear objectives for all stakeholders regarding lessons and units.

 

Curriculum and Instruction (OAR 584-020-0015)

  1. The competent educator measures success by the progress of each student toward realization of personal potential as a worthy and effective citizen. The competent educator stimulates the spirit of inquiry, the acquisition of knowledge and understanding, and the thoughtful formulation of goals as they are appropriate for each individual.

    1. Use of state and district adopted curriculum and goals;
    2. Skill in setting instructional goals and objectives expressed as learning outcomes;
    3. Use of current subject matter appropriate to the individual needs of students;

MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Marginal duties of this position include the following.  Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Serve on building, District and school committees and councils.
  2. Report issues to authorities as necessary, such as animal control, suspicious activity etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may supervise volunteers, student aides, and instructional assistants.  All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment.
