LOCATION:  Barnes Butte Elementary School

START DATE:  January 5, 2026

DAYS & HOURS:  7 hours per day; 180 days per school year  (will prorate for the 25-26 school year)

DESCRIPTION:  Under the general supervision of a program teacher and/or administrator, provides supported educational services in classrooms, resource centers, or other program related areas; functioning without direct guidelines or supervision within established perimeters when appropriate.  Duties and responsibilities depend on class/program assignments and may include participating in physical management.  Reports to designated teacher, building principal and/or program supervisor.

 

REQUIREMENTS:  Highly qualified designation required (two years of post-secondary study, or an Associate’s Degree, or verification of other acceptable Paraprofessional Testing); two years of school related experience preferable; ability to relate well to students, staff and public; accurately transfer, record and convey information; basic knowledge of school rules and procedures; basic knowledge of computer technology and other equipment used in the work place as required. Bilingual Spanish-speaking desired.

Job Title:              Instructional Assistant II – Migrant ESOL

Work Days:          As Assigned

Reports to:          Classroom Teacher/ Building or Program Administrator

FLSA Status:       Classified – Non-Exempt

 

JOB SUMMARY:

To assist teaching staff in performing necessary instructional and supervisory tasks.  Reports to designated teacher.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Fills a position designated for Educational Assistant II, including all regular classroom, special education and resource center positions.
  2. Under the direction of the Teacher, oversees and when appropriate directs student activities, both individual and group related.
  3. Set out and put away instructional material required by the Teacher.
  4. Checks and scores written assignments when a scoring key is provided.
  5. Supervises study halls, playground activities at recess or noon breaks, cafeterias and hallways.
  6. Assists in student management.
  7. Able to access, input, retrieve information from a computer and key 30 wpm.
  8. Able to learn assigned tasks readily, with minimal supervision, and follow established routines and procedures.
  9. Fulfill other related duties as assigned.
  10. Fulfill performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.
  11. Fulfill working conditions and physical effort listed below.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Two years of post-secondary study, or
  2. An Associate’s Degree, or
  3. A passing score on a state or local academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics.
  4. High school diploma or the equivalent.
  5. A minimum of two years of school related experience preferable
  6. Demonstrate a strong ability to relate well to students, staff and public.
  7. Accurately transfer, record and convey information.
  8. Communicate clearly and appropriately both in oral and written form in accordance with educational standards.
  9. Adhere to the federal requirements of a drug-free work place.
  10. Basic knowledge of school rules and procedures.
  11. Basic knowledge of computer technology and other equipment used in the work place, as required by the position.
  12. Knowledge of clerical skills such as typing, operating office machines and organizing files. Familiarity with test scoring and recording. 
  13. Ability to communicate accurately with others through both speaking and writing skills using correct grammar and/or spelling.
  14. Bilingual – Fluent in Spanish.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  2. Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  3. Lifting may be required.
  4. Work with students having a variety of handicapping conditions in large or small groups or 1:1.
  5. Supervise students across a variety of learning environments both indoors and outdoors.
  6. May be required to deal with bodily fluid spills.
  7. May be required to remove clothing soiled by human waste.
  8. Maybe required to assist in cleaning students.
  9. Work requires standing and moving rapidly for prolonged periods of time.
  10. Works closely with students and can be physically and emotionally demanding.
